Thousands of fans turned out at Melbourne Central on Friday May 16 to catch a glimpse of Hugh Jackman, (Wolverine), Peter Dinklage (Bolivar Trask) and Fan Bingbing (Blink) walk the red carpet for the Australian premiere. Although Hugh Jackman received a huge welcome, he was somewhat overshadowed by his diminutive co-star, Peter Dinklage, best known for playing Tyrion Lannister on the Game of Thrones television series, who stole the spotlight. Fan Bingbing also got a massive reaction by her fans, many of them in tears upon meeting her.

Days of Future Past offers some of the most amazing action sequences, 3D and special effects and scenery shown on the big screen. However, film goers who are not fans of the series will get caught up in the story with its many overlapping subplots and characters.

Based on the 1981 Uncanny X – Men storyline “Days of Future Past” by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, the movie opens with the Mutants fighting for life against the unstoppable robotic Sentinels. To save the Mutant race, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is sent back to the 1970s to change the course of history that led to the rise of the Sentinels.

To do this he must find and get the help of the reluctant younger selves of Mutant elders Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Erik Lensherr (Ian McKellen) played by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.

Making matters worse they must stop an assassination attempt on scientist Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage) by fellow vengeful Mutant Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) that could end all existence of Mutants and living in harmony with humans.

X – Men: Days of Future Past serves as a great instalment in the franchise with its fast-paced action, good performance of emotion by a talented cast and in general very entertaining. Even with some confusing plot holes, Days of Future Past is an excellent superhero movie that cinema goers and fans are going to enjoy.

The 14 year – old series with 7 films which has earned more than $2.3 billion to date is far from over. X – Men: Apocalypse is due in 2016. Hugh Jackman is to reprise the claw fighting mutant in the third standalone Wolverine movie to be released in 2017.

X – Men: Days of Future Past opens nationally this Thursday.
