Ama De Groen’s play ‘Wicked Sisters’ takes place over one evening in Meridee’s house in the Blue Mountains. Three of Merilee’s friends – Lydia, Judith and Hester come together to spend time with Meridee whose husband Alec, a science professor who recently died after a  brief, late-life battle with Alzheimer’s.

The four very middle-class women, now in their fifties, went to University together and are now reflecting back on their lives. As the night wears on, confidences are revealed and the temperature in the room rises.

Nadia Tass directs the action with a sure touch. and Tobhiyah Stone Feller’s design works well.

Di Adams impressively plays the hippie type Hester who is the least comfortable in her middle-class skin. Hester does more than ruffle the feathers of her friends as she tests their integrity and heart.

Vanessa Downing authentically plays the tense Meridee whose marriage was a cold one. Her husband lived entirely in his head and was unable to express his emotions.

Hannah Waterman memorably plays stylish publicist Judith who  has lived a rather superficial life with some questionable morals

Deborah Galanos gives an accomplished performance as wired real estate agent Lydia with a very active post-divorce love life.

Recommended, the Griffin Theatre Company production of Alma de Groen’s ‘Wicked Sisters’ is playing the Reginald Theatre at the Seymour Centre until Saturday 12th December, 2020.
