THE WIFE : A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE

This was a film well worth seeing. Plenty to ruminate on. Most of all the excellent performances of the two leads, Glenn Close and Jonathon Pryce.

The film is directed by Bjorn Runge from a screenplay adaptation by Jane Anderson of a novel by Meg Wolitzer.

The story is about a long married couple Joan and Joe. Joe is a highly regarded novelist and Joan is his devoted wife. They have one adult son Max  who feels his father treats him with less than the respect that he deserves.

The film starts with a big event – Joe gets the call to say that he has won the Noble Prize for Literature. They bounce up and down on their bed celebrating ‘their’ win and are off to Stockholm in no time.

Through the film we explore different aspects of the couples relationship with some very unexpected results.

The famous John Lennon quote, behind every great man  is a great woman has particular relevance with this movie.

THE WIFE  appeals mainly appeals with the wonderful acting on show and the tightness of the script.

Highly recommended.
