THE LADY AND THE UNICORN: AGNSW

THE LADY AND THE UNICORN  tapestry series is one of the greatest surviving textiles from the European Middle Ages; a rare masterpiece of French art. Travelling for only the third time outside France since the series was designed in Paris circa 1500, the six magnificent tapestries can be viewed exclusively at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney in 2018.   10 Feb – 24 Jun 2018

On loan from the Musée de Cluny – Musée national du Moyen Âge, Paris, THE LADY AND THE UNICORN is often referred to as the ‘Mona Lisa of the Middle Ages.’ Considered a French national treasure, the tapestries are woven in wool and silk and together span over twenty metres in length.

Not likely to travel to Australia ever again, this exhibition is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see The Lady and the Unicorn exclusively in Sydney and to experience the beauty, scale and intricacy of these majestic artworks that have captivated viewers across the centuries.
