HOW TO RULE THE WORLD @ THE DRAMA THEATRE

In Nakkiah Lui’s play HOW TO RULE THE WORLD Vic, Zaza and Chris meet in a bar. They have a passionate, booze filled chat that is the genesis for them to start an election campaign.

They are fed up with the current state of politics and the Prime Ministers current push to push Sovereign State legislation through  Parliament.

All three of them are well educated, savvy with political processes, and have their own ideas about how they want things run.  There is a a half senate election coming up  They come up with a plan. They will  find someone who will run for the senate and get him or her  to be the voice for their views.

They decide that it will have to be a non threatening, non thinking white person.  Further, they decide its going to have to be an out of work actor, and that they will need to hold auditions to find the right person.                         Continue reading HOW TO RULE THE WORLD @ THE DRAMA THEATRE

RECITAL. THE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN MOVEMENT AND SOUND.

RECITAL – featured image by Ross Coulter

Three time APRA Art Music Award-winning percussionist Claire Edwardes and Helpmann Award-winning dancer Richard Cilli will unite in the hauntingly hypnotic dance and music work, RECITAL.

Presented by FORM Dance Projects, a dancer and percussionist come together in this strange, mesmerising double act about how movement sounds and how sound moves.

Set in the orthodox world of a music and dance recital, the ambiguous relationship between the two performers intensifies; the outcomes are impressive, disturbing and wildly ecstatic.

RECITAL brings together Edwardes and Cilli’s distinct virtuosic talents in this collaboration directed by acclaimed choreographer Gideon Obarzanek, with composition and sound design by Australia’s leading electro-pop composer, Paul Mac.

RECITAL from FORM Dance Projects [Facebook]  plays at Riverside Theatres from 28th February to 2nd March.

CD: ‘CELEBRARE’ – SYDNEY CONSERVATORIUM OF MUSIC WIND SYMPHONY

Above: CD cover :  Celebrae (Klavier Music Productons K  11215) Featured Image   :   SCM Wind Symphony

The title of this CD,  Celebrare (Klavier K11215) is borrowed from Carl Vine’s orchestral work of 1993, Celebrare Celeberrime : a celebration for orchestra which begins the recording in its fine wind band arrangement form.

This title’s reference to celebration is a perfect theme for this CD. The CD was produced following the centenary of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and live performances by SCM Wind Symphony at the institution’s Centenary Festival in 2015.

The recording, dated 2016, has been mastered with a pleasing bright clarity by Bruce Leek. This celebrates the sound of the school’s quality symphonic wind ensemble. The emergence of this CD also recognises the Sydney Conservatorium’s recent centenary as well as this music school’s efforts towards being at the international forefront of wind band interpretation. Two works on the recording were commissioned by the SCM Wind Symphony and appear as first recordings on this disc. Continue reading CD: ‘CELEBRARE’ – SYDNEY CONSERVATORIUM OF MUSIC WIND SYMPHONY
