SHORT+SWEET “The biggest little theatre festival in the world” now completes the COVID-19-interrupted 2021 season (total season of eleven months – but not defeated) that started during May 2021. The Short + Sweet Cabaret Gala Final took place last Sunday evening at the swish inner city cabaret venue, the Slide. in front of a huge sold-out audience. SF3 is the Smart Fone Flick Fest and is Australia’s only dedicated smartphone film festival for filmmakers of all ages. See how the humble portable smart telephone can be easily used for so much more than photographing your food and sending sms text messages.
2015 is the inaugural year, receiving more than 500 entries, but which movies will make the final top ten? All of the Top Ten Films were shown on the huge screen at Palace Chauvel Cinema. The audience was captivated by an entertaining fun night of innovative, creative short movies, with each Smart Phone movie having a running time under six and a half minutes. This year Short+Sweet Sydney staged 156 ten minute plays, during January and February. This year I had the opportunity to see almost every play. Wow an almost perfect selection of the best of the best winners from each week of the festival, and these thirteen wonderful plays were the Gala Finalists for Short+Sweet Sydney 20th March 2015 at the Factory Theatre, Marrickville.
The Gala Final presented a very entertaining evening with minimalist sets/staging. Rapid paced delivery of each of those very clever scripts, provided a full and quite varied range of believable performances from a superb cast of great actors, all directed with unique visions.
