NIGHT AT THE BARRACKS NORTH HEAD MANLY

Helpmann Award-winning, Olivier Award-nominated singer, dancer and actress CAROLINE O’CONNOR has just been announced as the newest artist to join the star-studded line-up ready to perform from 24 February to 27 March at Sydney’s newest outdoor music venue, The Barracks, North Head, Manly.

Caroline will perform My Musical Life, a look back through her career as Australia’s leading female triple-threat performer.  The show will take you on a journey through songs from Music Theatre shows in which Caroline has starred in Australia, West End, Paris and on Broadway including Chicago, West Side Story, Anything Goes, and the international hit film Moulin Rouge.

Audiences are already enthusiastically booking for the artistry of Australia’s biggest names in music, theatre, ballet, dance, rock, opera and jazz including Jessica Mauboy, David Campbell, James Morrison, David Hobson, Lucy Durack, John Foreman and the Aussie Pops Orchestra, Tim Campbell and Bonnie Anderson, The Tap Pack, Queensland Ballet, Sydney Dance Company and Australian Rock Collective. FROM BROADWAY TO LA SCALA @ THE CONCERT HALL

From Broadway to La Scala

This was always going to be a treat as indeed it was. There was a great mix of  songs from Broadway shows and from the opera world.  They were performed by six of Australia’s finest contemporary singers. They comprised the lyric colorature soprano Emma Matthews, much loved tenor David Hobson, acclaimed bass baritone Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Broadway star Caroline O’Connor, brilliant young Australian tenor Alexander Lewis and emerging artist Genevieve Kingsford. CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG

If you’re like me then the only things you remember about the movie version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang are that it starred Dick Van Dyke, it was about a phantasmagorical car that flies and it featured a really catchy song called oddly enough “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”.

And incredibly, the original story was written by Ian Fleming of James Bond fame and was inspired by a number of real racing cars all named, wait for it, “Chitty Bang Bang” One Chitty went missing!
