CANALETTO : THE ART OF VENICE – A FASCINATING FILM : TWO DOUBLE PASSES

Exhibition on Screen‘s  CANALETTO : THE ART OF VENICE  was filmed in 2018, and based on acclaimed Royal Collection exhibition of the same name, held in The Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace.

Directed by David Bickerstaff it examines the life and times of Giovanni Antonio Canal, better known as CANALETTO (1697-1768) famous for his glorious paintings of Venice . It also looks at the work of some of his contemporaries including Sebastiano and Marco Ricci, Francesco Zuccarelli, Rosalba Carriera, Pietro Longhi and Giovanni Battista Piazzetta. CANALETTO & THE ART OF VENICE: A SUBLIME GIVE-AWAY

Exhibition On Screen’s latest release, CANALETTO & THE ART OF VENICE is in cinemas across Australia from 2 August 2018.  The film will grant unique access to the Royal Collection’s exceptional holdings of Canaletto’s work, much of which is on display as part of the exhibition Canaletto & the Art of Venice at The Queen’s Gallery.

The remarkable group of over 200 paintings, drawings and prints on display offer unparalleled insight into the artistry of Canaletto and his contemporaries, and the city he became a master at capturing. The film also offers the chance to step inside two official royal residences – Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle – to learn more about the artist, and Joseph Smith, the man who introduced Canaletto to Britain.
