BLAK MARKETS SPRING FESTIVAL @ BARE ISLAND

There will be plenty in store at the iconic Blak Markets at Bare Island La Perouse Sunday, September 29 from 9:30am to 3pm.

There will be Arts and Craft workshops for mothers to enjoy while their children can do an interactive storytelling session with Larry Brandy Storytellers, along with a cultural dance performance by Ngambaa dhalaay Dancers. Aboriginal singer Charlie Trindall will be singing on the day.

The Blak Markets are a great chance to buy authentic unique gifts  knowing that 100% of the profits go back into Aboriginal communities. The Blak Markets feature authentic, original and affordable Aboriginal artworks, beauty products and one-of-a-kind homewares and jewellery as well as Indigenous inspired food and refreshments.

This market will also feature a wonderful array of Native plants including bush foods and bush-herbs, being developed by Indigigrow, the other social enterprise arm of the charity who runs the Blak Markets.

The Blak Markets takes place at Bare Island within the Kamay-Botany Bay National Park with the support of the NSW Parks and Wildlife Service and Randwick City Council.

NATIONAL INDIGENOUS ART FAIR @ THE ROCKS

Indigenous artists from around Australia will come together in Sydney for the National Indigenous Art Fair – a two day art market and program of events in celebration of NAIDOC  Week at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in The Rocks on 29 & 30 June 2019.

The National Indigenous Art Fair is an ethical marketplace, offering a unique opportunity to buy artwork directly from Aboriginal artists from remote community owned art centres from the Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia.

Take the rare chance to meet artists from some of Australia’s most remote communities and browse a huge variety of Aboriginal paintings, textiles and sculptures, right in the heart of Sydney.

A huge range of artworks, sculptures and textiles will be on offer from more than 18 art centres including APY Art Centre Collective (Amata, APY Lands, SA), Bábbarra Women’s Centre (Maningrida, NT), Ikuntji Artists (Haasts Bluff, NT), Martumili Artists (Newman, WA), Munupi Arts and Crafts Association (Garden Point, Tiwi Islands, NT), Tangentyere Artists (Ciccone, NT), Tjanpi Desert Weavers (Amata, SA) and more.

The event will also feature a vibrant program of live music, weaving circles and Aboriginal dance performances, plus more than 30 stallholders from around New South Wales selling art, jewellery, gifts, homewares, and Indigenous food and beverages. A group of Aboriginal weavers and fibre artists from remote communities will work together to create a woven interpretation of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which will evolve before the eyes of visitors.

The second annual event is presented by the Blak Markets, the social enterprise arm of First Hand Solutions Aboriginal Corporation, in proud partnership with Port Authority of NSW and Destination NSW.

Entry is by gold coin donation to support First Hand Solutions’ Aboriginal youth programs. The Overseas Passenger Terminal is easily accessible by public transport and on foot from Circular Quay.

BLAK MARKETS @ BARE ISLAND LA PEROUSE

Join Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artisans at the iconic Blak Markets at Bare Island La Perouse Sunday, February 24 from 9:30am to 3pm.

Arts and Craft have always been a focus at the Blak Markets and this market will have the famous shellworkers from La Perouse, Auntie Esme Timbery and Marilyn Russell doing a shellwork workshop and selling their art.

This market will also feature Native plants including bushfoods, which are being developed by Indigigrow, the other social enterprise arm of the charity who runs the Blak Markets.

The Blak Markets is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Festival featuring arts, craft and cultural performances.

The last Blak Market for the year will be the Christmas market on Bare Island on Sunday 16 December from 10am till 4pm.

With the lovely melodies of Charlie Trindall, and a weaving workshop with Karleen Green. The Yaama Boys will be back for an encore Performance.

BLAK MARKETS ON AGAIN SUNDAY MAY 27

Join Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artisans at the iconic Blak Markets at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) in Redfern on Sunday May 27 from 8:00am – 2:00pm.

This will be the second time Blak Markets will be at the NCIE and this market lands on the 27 of May, which was the date of the 1967 Referendum where Australians voted in favour of changes to the Australian Constitution to improve the services available to Indigenous Australians and an exhibition will be on display to educate about this significant day. Always popular, BLAK MARKETS will be held at Bare Island, La Perouse,  Sunday February 4, 2018.

THE BLAK MARKETS is a great chance to buy art and products directly from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who made them in the knowledge that the profit goes back to Indigenous communities.

Featuring  Aboriginal arts, craft, performances and foods from local stallholders, the day will begin with a welcome to country followed by live music, dance performances, and workshops.
