Short + Sweet is finally back in Sydney, this is week four of the heats. Short + Sweet 2021 is helmed by Nick Hardcastle, who has curated two amazing sets of plays this week. The exquisite art of great storytelling, with each story delivered in ten minutes or less. Two new sets of very entertaining plays this week, and you should go and see them all, during two nights (and/or two matinees). This is a great week to visit SHORT+SWEET. Two very appreciative audiences, and all the actors reacted to make each night, a unique live theatre event experience.

Breatharianism (Inedia) at its best. Message play. Complicated drama, because Catherine went to her rapist David’s funeral, without telling her partner James. They discuss David’s marriage with Jessica, and all about her tiny vagina, and the non-consentual sexual assault by David upon Catherine.

Political correction of the past for todays expectations, by repainting the past narrative, what should never ever have been acceptable, is reconsidered and discussed when Tom discusses his girlfriend’s first sexual encounter, which was with her female teacher.

Family ancestry comedy delight, irony beautifully delivered to Joey by Aunt Vira. Her extended family all the way back to the dinosaurs, explored on the evening of the family New Years’ Eve party. Laughter galore kept the audience well amused, credible exaggeration, including the humorous death by piano.

However just for this huge LGBTQIA special event, the plays are no longer PG rated and do often contain very coarse language, but always effectively used to good effect. (1) “Which Goldberg?” directed by Louise Reily and written by Michael Strang. Very clever dialogue comedy of manners and persons, set in a Jewish funeral home, just before the funeral service for Abe Goldberg. Memorable stand-out performances from the two older women, who talk continuously about all the people they know, because they both knew a man called Goldberg, however are they supposed to be there? SHORT+SWEET THEATRE TOP 80 WEEK FOUR SYDNEY 2018 @ AMPA – TOM MANN THEATRE

There are ten very different and very original plays, being performed live on stage this week, at Short and Sweet, the world’s biggest little play festival. Delicious comedy monologues providing laugh-out-loud entertainment, message plays, comedies, dramas and dramedy.

This year in a big new venue for S+S, and located inside the Academy of Music and Performing Arts (AMPA) building, and comfortably seating a maximum of 171. Top 80 Week Four Thursday 22nd February 2018 until Sunday. The S+S festival has new shows every week for eight weeks, and runs from February until April, with both a Top 80 program (Thursdays-Fridays-Saturdays at 7.30pm and Sundays at 6.30pm) together with a separate Wildcards program (Saturdays at 3.30pm and Sundays at 2.30pm). The S+S gala finals take place in April 2018.
