The Sydney Philharmonia Choirs upcoming concert will feature the presentation of  one of the great 18th Century choral masterworks, Joseph Haydn’s visionary life-affirming masterpiece, THE CREATION.

Offered for one performance only, in one of the most grand performance venues in the country, THE CREATION will  features two of Australia’s finest soloists – multi-award winning soprano Taryn Fiebig, and acclaimed young counter-tenor Nicholas Jones, joined by more than 350 singers from Sydney Philharmonia’s acclaimed Festival Chorus and players from Sydney’s renowned TMO, The Metropolitan Orchestra.

First performed in 1798, THE CREATION was an overnight success and remains to this day, a favourite amongst audiences worldwide. An epic work of sublime imagination and power, Haydn’s inspired oratorio evokes the creation of the universe with grace and grandeur.

From its opening chorus – a furious and jarring depiction of chaos – the audience is transported into a world of balance, order and light.  Nature takes form in the arias and choruses that follow, as larks, whales, angels, tigers and humanity, each in turn find voice and come to life.

Over the next two hours Haydn’s perfectly-judged music evokes all of the events of Genesis, with a winning blend of humour, humanity, sophistication and colour, no doubt achieving the artist’s vision,.that The Creation become a source of peace and refreshment for the careworn.

Sydney Philharmonia Choirs’ Music Director Brett Weymark says, “There’s something very special about coming to the Sydney Town Hall for this show. It’s a large venue, accommodating up to 2,000 people, but allowing for an intimate sound, with the choir literally wrapped around you.”

“In this concert we’ll be creating the sort of feel that Haydn would have expected to have heard in his home town of Vienna –  with a large chorus of over 350 singers and a stellar line up of soloists, accompanied by a magnificent orchestra.

“I’m also thrilled that this production marks Sydney Philharmonia’s first collaboration with the brilliant team at the TMO,” he concludes.

The Creation, described as a source of peace and refreshment for the careworn. is being presented for one concert only at 5pm Saturday 26th May in the ornate splendour of Sydney’s historic Town Hall. Tickets from $49.
