SYDNEY CONTEMPORARY : CARRIAGEWORKS HOSTS INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR

Tens of thousands of people attended at what is billed as Australasia’s largest international art fair, Sydney Contemporary which was held at Carriageworks from the 13th to the 16th September 2018.

Every bay  of the vast ground floor of the venue was crammed full of artworks provided by 60 galleries from London to New York, Santa Monica to interstate galleries and of-course Sydney.

There were additional subcategories of artworks entitled Future Contemporary, Paper Contemporary, Installation Contemporary, Kid Contemporary and Video Contemporary displayed by a further 68 artists and galleries.

To accompany the exhibition there were talks, dance company performances, print workshops to name but a few of the associated activities of the Art Fair.

There was something for everyone from the sublime to the ridiculous, the inane to the inventive and works ranging in price from three figures to six figures, the top asking price being $650,000 for Jeffrey Smart’s work The Yellow Line.

The hordes of art lovers were undeterred by the high ticket entry prices and the exorbitant parking fees. The large acreage to be covered in order to see everything worked up an appetite and visitors were well catered for by two cafes at diagonally opposite ends of the venue as well as a Beluga bar for those who can’t bear looking at artworks without a glass of wine in their hand
