SHORT AND SWEET THEATRE – 2021 SYDNEY WEEK TWO @ AMPA TOM MANN THEATRE

COOGEE/NEWPORT PROGRAMME from 27th May 2021 until 30th May 2021 –

(1) LIFE FINDS A WAY
Family ancestry comedy delight, irony beautifully delivered to Joey by Aunt Vira. Her extended family all the way back to the dinosaurs, explored on the evening of the family New Years’ Eve party. Laughter galore kept the audience well amused, credible exaggeration, including the humorous death by piano.
Written by Pete Greenaway
Directed by Margaret Fitzgerald
STARRING –
Aunt Vira – Debbie Tilley
Joey – Jawed Wijngebrael

(2) SHOPPING FOR LOVE
Clever comedy monologue in one voice, artfully delivered by Melissa Myles (Tracey) whist she is panic shopping for love, in her local supermarket plus on the way to someplace else and also to everywhere else.
Written and Directed by Jonathon Solomon
ITC = Diamonds for Dessert
STARRING
Tracey – Melissa Myles

(3) THE CIRCLE
Drama as his dead father reaches out, via these multiple spirits that the father sent to visit his son. Clever dramatic and moving appeals, made to the audience’s emotions.
Written and Directed by Guy Davies
STARRING
The Son – William Baltyn
Letter/Loving/Dreaming Spirit – Nichola Allen
Joking/Observing Spirit – Shay Kelliher
Outward/Loyal Spirit – Keanu Pena Cook

(4) SMART GIRLS
Reminded of the clever oxymoron “Military Intelligence”. Three protagonists. We experience comedy via these three “smart speaker” examples of “Artificial Intelligence”. The audience absolutely adored the female comedy delights of Apple versus Alexa versus Microsoft. Exploring the humorous challenges of having to deal day to day, with all those crazy questions from humanity, both young and old.
Written by Amanda Schmacher
Directed by Sascha Green
STARRING
Siri – Patrick Nelson
Alexa – Tessa Neilson
Cortana – Julia Mercer

(5) SWEET, HE
The joys of two men, being truly madly deeply in love, and with comedic insights.
Written by Jeff Locker
Directed by Danny Barton
STARRING
Cory – Danny Barton
Fernando – Patricio Ibarra

(6) FIGGY
Alice Furze was wonderfully theatrical in her role as FIGGY, an extraordinary woman with a rather strange, but highly entertaining, tale of past unrequited love and then a less than satisfactory marriage. This Comedy Monologue encompasses the loss of a fiancée and a husband. Maintaining her highly dramatic/flamboyant character throughout, this FIGGY is a freshly made, exotic single woman, who begins to embrace her best life. My favourite monologue of the night.
Written by Tom Peach
Directed by Dana Lowe
STARRING –
Figgy – Alice Furze

INTERVAL

(7) A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PSYCHOPATH
Valerie Warry is quite stunning in each of her four roles (a must see) whilst the forever killing psychopath Henry (Pat Brennan) talks with each of those victims, as held within the four urns. All four urns are given full pride of place on his mantelpiece.
Written and Directed by Pat Brennan
ITC = Little White Bull Theatre Company
STARRING –
Henry – Pat Brennan
April/May/Mother/Lizzy – Valerie Warry

(8) GEMINI
The CEO of Omnia Financial, Mr Leo Wright, arrives to see Kate at the offices of Takashi AI. Drama because the “artificial intelligence tech” is all amazing and knowing, and two-faced in the most unusual and unexpected ways.
Written by Stephen Larkman
Directed by Kathleen Hrayssi
STARRING
Leo Wright – Trey Daniels
Kate – Anna McCrea

(9) EMPTY ESKY
For those affected by the bush fires of Australia, the “Empty Esky Campaign” was created. This family uses their unreliable information, to showcase their charity facts and their rebuilding facts.
Written and Directed by Taufeeq Ahmed
ITC = SFAA
STARRING
Anna – Sonia Hamdard
Sales Person – Manjit Kaur
Lalitha Chellappan – Mrs Iyer
Volunteer – Komal Khubani
Cliff – Juzer Holawla

(10) THE WOLF WITHIN
Red Riding Hood retold as a comedy monologue (in one voice) delivered by The Wolf and told from his perspective, and also of his constant struggle for survival.
Written and Directed by Lisa Kelaher
ITC = Backstage Pass
STARRING
The Wolf – Dean Vince

(11) THE FORGOTTEN PLACE
The ultimate job interview, for the job described as fully-paid and with benefits “Lifetime Best Friend”. A unique voyage of discovery, during all their long years together, all the way until their end of time. Just the perfect cast, and expertly directed. My favourite relationship comedy of the night.
Written by Jeff Locker
Directed by Garreth Cruikshank
STARRING –
Eric – Tom Crotty
Kip – Nick Shields
