The new exhibition at the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF) in leafy Paddington is Michael Subotzky’S film WYE. Media were invited to a special preview screening of the film last Wednesday afternoon after which curator Nina Miall and the filmmaker gave brief talks. Subotzky received a substantial grant from the Foundation to make the film. Subotzky’s film explores Australia’s early colonial history.

The intriguing aspect of WYE is that the filmmaker uses three separate screens to tell his exploratory tale. People attending the exhibition get to see Subotzky’s film in the comfort of plush deckchairs set up in the exhibition/cinema room. Each screen runs a different storyline yet tie-in together. A fascinating experience.

WYE represents the 30th Project commissioned by the Foundation. The exhibition will run till 21 May at the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation located at 16-20 Goodhope Street Paddington. The Foundation’s hours are Wednesdays to Saturdays between 11am and 5pm. WYE screens at the top of very hour during opening hours. Well worth a visit.
