Following sell out extended seasons in Berlin in 2017, Motimaru Dance Company (Berlin) will be performing and teaching in Sydney from 29 May to 17 June 2018!  The prestigious company will be performing two works in successive weeks at Old 505 Theatre, Newtown.

The two shows are TWILIGHT: 29 May – 3 June 2018 and MUT: 6–10 June 2018.

Motimaru is a dance company founded in Tokyo by Motoya Kondo and Tiziana Longo, and based in Berlin since 2010. Their background is in performing arts, modern dance, martial arts, and butoh. After they trained for 5 years at the Kazuo Ohno Dance Studio, studying and working as dancers and stage assistants of Yoshito Ohno – a son of Kazuo Ohno, they left Japan and have started fieldwork research about traditional and ritual dances in Japan, India, Bali, and Tibetan area in Nepal.

Motimaru define dance as a way to experience deeper reality of our existence and are experimenting to create a new authentic dance method beyond any genre.

Motoya Kondo and Tiziana Longo, co-founders of Motimaru Dance Company say: “What we need to learn from the founders of butoh is not the style, but the method to go deeply into our body-mind through dance, the method that could enable us to go beyond
our ego and to metamorphose into everything of the universe. This process is not a narrow genre called “butoh”, but the most fundamental theme of human beings, dance and cultures. The revolution of the dance has just started.”

TWILIGHT and MUT from Motimaru Dance Company [Facebook] will play at Old 505 Theatre [Facebook] from 29th May.  You can see a trailer for TWILIGHT here.
