Michael Buble, to contagious audience anticipation, opened his concert in Sydney last Friday by cruising out from his curtain alone and singing a wonderful rendition of “Fever”. His interpretation of all his songs by other artists were just as powerful and unique.

The curtain opened to a vibrant stage where his long term musicians, fondly known as ‘Team Buble’, were placed on one moving platform and the incredible horn section on another. Later in the evening, the horn section glided off and returned with a local Sydney string orchestra aboard. Buble broke into “Haven’t Met You Yet”, a favourite with his ecstatic audience.

The technical precision onstage was fantastic, with a high definition screen behind, monoliths moving up and down between he and his band and brilliant lighting. Buble shared many jokes with his audience as his microphone had to be reconnected at the beginning. He makes you feel like you’re his special guests and also pays huge tribute to his accompanying musicians, who are all very special. A finely-tuned outfit indeed.

He sang a wonderful rendition of his favourite song, “Moondance”  by Van Morrison, did an awesome version of The Beatles’ “All You Need Is Love”, Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and the fabulous “Cry Me A River”. He spent most of the second half on a small stage behind the stalls singing to the folks at the back. He is a kind and generous, passionate and thoughtful performer.

Buble’s special guest support band, who have toured extensively with him, “Naturally 7”, are also worth catching in their 30 minute set before interval. They take a cappella to the next level in a style they dub ‘Vocal Play’. Along with a beautiful medley of Simon and Garfunkel songs, amongst others, they sounded out and created multi instruments and filled the stage with great energy.

If you can get tickets for next weekend’s Sydney Michael Buble concerts, I strongly suggest you follow them up. As a consummate professional, he will give you his all.

He plays the Allphones Arena in Sydney on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th of May.
