Michael Buble: Born to Entertain

It’s no surprise that Michael Buble’s career continues to soar, topping the charts worldwide with multiple platinum albums.

He is a consummate professional, a generous and personable man who knows how to stay on top of his game. He spoke about his attitude to performing and managing his many months of touring during his press conference- his only media conference of his national tour- held last Thursday in the Treasury Room at the Intercontinental Hotel.

“I was built to do this, born to do it and I love every moment that I’m up there. With my audience, that first show, whether it’s my 150th or 160th show, that night is just as important and more important than every other one. People spend their hard earned money and hire babysitters to be there,” he says.

Along with his newfound fatherhood, which he relishes, now touring with his Argentinian wife, actress Luisana Lopilato and his son Noah, born in 2013, Buble has released his latest album, “To Be Loved”, already platinum and number one in the Australian charts, which will feature heavily in his current repertoire.

He continues: “When I was 26, I did what I wanted to do, had fun, but at 38 years old, I’ve realised what I have to do. You have to be an athlete, you have to be disciplined, in great physical condition and be in a great mental state. You have a big responsibility to show up and do what these people have paid you to do, to be fully there, to be in full voice. If you’re hurting or hung-over, it’s not fair to them and it’s not fair to you. It hurts your legacy.”

Buble makes no secret of his affinity with Australia, calling it his home away from home. He feels that Australians and Canadians share a kindred spirit. The feeling is mutual as he has sold more than two million records and has had five number one albums here.

“When I was young and working in clubs, I’d think that I could get away with it, I could fake it, but I can’t fake it anymore. The ride is a great ride. Getting there is easy compared to staying there, that’s what I’ve realised more than anything.” He says.

He will be supported in Australia by R & B/Urban/Soul phenomenon “Naturally 7”, who take a cappella to the next level in a style they dub ‘Vocal Play’. This tour is Buble’s fifth concert in Australia.

THE MICHAEL BUBLE TOUR plays 14 shows nationally and will play in Sydney at the  Allphones Arena on Friday 9th, Saturday 10th, Friday 16th and Saturday 17th May
