MATTEO BERNASCONI: THE CURE @ PEACH BLACK GALLERY CHIPPENDALE

‘Flow’ Matteo Bernasconi, oil on canvas, 120X85cm

Matteo Bernasconi, visual artist, opens his career defining solo exhibition The Cure on Thursday 3rd December, 6pm at Peach Black Gallery, Chippendale.

Visual artist Matteo Bernasconi’s 16 piece exhibition is a visual contemplation of the importance of the human connection, both physical and emotional.

His body of work aims to resonate with people marked by a tumultuous year of social disconnections, restrictions and uncertainty. It reflects human behaviour through our ever increasing digital world and growing disconnection.

Eight months of a pandemic and the value of Humanities studies decreasing, Matteo’s work is a bold statement about the need for human connection.

Matteo hopes The Cure will be a visual trigger for a reflection and tool to stimulate broader conversations and awareness of this new technologically disjointed era we live in.

“Social relations, an indispensable pillar for human beings, are weakening. In recent years, we have been witnessing the birth of substitutes for human interactions in various technological forms. However, such virtual surrogates cannot simulate the warmth of another person’s touch nor can they replace a real face to face relating”  Matteo Bernasconi

Over the last three years, Matteo has made a name for himself as a leading portrait and figurative artist, teacher and mentor. He sells his work worldwide and has been the finalist in 7 recent awards including the 2019 Mosman Art Prize and 2020 Shirley Hannan Portrait Prize.

The Cure will be his 6th solo exhibition since arriving in Australia seven years ago. The exhibition will open on Thursday 3rd December, 6pm at Peach Black Gallery, Chippendale.
