MANLY MUSICAL SOCIETY PRESENTS A CHORUS LINE @ STAR OF THE SEA THEATRE MANLY

Chorus LineThis is  a pure entertainment experience first seen in 1975, and coming from that time when the Broadway musical scene was in full unrivaled glory,

Be taken on a life affirming, two hour emotional roller coaster ride delivered in song and dance. A CHORUS LINE the entire cast delivers emotionally charged performances, and triumphantly delivers the ultimate expression, of what all musicals need to be.

Conceived by Michael Bennett, dancers try out for a new musical, before a very demanding director. Based on stories from real Broadway dancers, as remembered by fellow dancer and choreographer Michael Bennett. Book by Nicholas Dante and James Kirkwood, is still very fresh and marvellously creative, with its dancer audition line-up of twenty-six unique individuals. Full of life characters, with true-to-life back stories.

With plenty of star quality throughout, this well-cast ensemble cast gels beautifully. Examining one day in their lives, each performer bears their soul with loads of heart and courage, whilst finding either despair or joy, but only eight will triumph. Marvin Hamlisch’s 1970s pop melodies, provide the very necessary showbiz musical razza-matazz.

Edward Kleban’s well remembered lyrics, will never loose their gritty eloquence, and provide a well managed blend of show tunes and show stoppers. Original orchestrations by Bill Byers, Hershey Kay and Jonathan Tunick were deeply satisfying ear candy, and their syncopated lively rhythms, will send you soaring. All of the choreography created by Bennett and Avian looks both gorgeous and glorious, and at the end “One” provides musical theatre’s most moving, heart-pounding finale, that brings the audience to its feet, and all eagerly begging for more.

This is a first-class revival by the Manly Musical Society. This A CHORUS LINE is  heartbreaking, funny and at all times refreshingly honest, you will be fighting back tears. Pure entertainment that you must experience, just to remind yourself what real musicals feel like.
