LEIGH WHANNELL EXPOSES ‘THE INVISIBLE MAN’

Leigh Whannell got his start on the 1990’s television show ‘Recovery’. He was its movie reviewer and media personality/interviewer.

His first interview was with Jackie Chan and he has declared that ‘The Recovery’ gig was the best job he ever had.

Whannell really shot to fame when he wrote ‘The Saw Franchise’ which  he wrote and was directed by his friend James Wan. Deciding to expand into direction he wrote and helmed ‘Insidious: Chapter 3’, ‘Upgrade’ and now  THE INVISIBLE MAN, his most ambitious project to date.

The film stars in demand actress Elisabeth Moss, famous for ‘The Handmaiden’s Tale’ and ‘Mad Men’.

Whannell has rebooted the movie by flipping H.G. Wells’  heroic victim and turned him into a villain.

“The idea of an invisible man playing games with someone, torturing them, wrapped perfectly around the idea of a toxic relationship, someone trying to escape from someone and emotionally abusing them.”

The horror for many women is the fact that they are not taken seriously and that the perpetrator is not that bad. Imagine Elizabeth Moss is being tortured by someone who cannot be seen.

Producer Kylie Du Fresne supervised the film shoot in Sydney last year with street scenes in Martin Pace and the hills of Gerringong  standing in for its San Francisco setting.

Elizabeth Moss must like working with Australasian directors as she collaborated with Jane Campion for two seasons of the enigmatic series ‘Top Of The Lake’.

Whannell walked the ‘Black Carpet’ for only the second time the film has been screened worldwide.

THE INVISIBLE MAN opens in cinemas on Thursday 27th February, 2020.
