LE CORSAIRE (The Pirate’s Story) is one of the world’s most loved ballets complete with pirates, beautiful maidens, romance and shipwrecks. A full length version of the classic has never before been staged by an Australian ballet company.

The Victorian State Ballet are delighted to perform the work at The Concourse, Chatswood on Saturday March 17 at 7.00pm and Sunday March 18 at 2.30pm, following its May premiere season in Victoria.

Based on the 1814 poem The Corsair by Lord Byron and choreographed by Michelle Sierra the exotic fable will appeal to young and old. It’s the story of a dashing pirate’s love for a beautiful maiden, including captive maidens, rich pashas and dramatic rescues.

Principal dancers in the talented cast of 20 include Rebekah Petty (playing Medora) Sean Williams (Ali) William Douglas (Conrad) Robyn Begg (Gulnare) and Michael Braun and Cieren Edingerp (Lankendam.)

The famous Pas de Trois is one of the most breathtaking spectacles in all of ballet! Audiences can also expect exhilarating solos and pas de dues from the leading couple, the world famous Le Corsaire Pas de Trois by Conrad, Medora & Ali, the beautiful flower garden of ballerinas in spectacular tutus, the very moving rescue by the Pirate Conrad of his love Medora and the ultimate happily ever after final scene!  Classical ballet at its finest!

“This production is a spectacular rendition of this most exciting and flamboyant of ballets,” Ms Sierra said.“The fiery passion and exciting musical score will have audiences on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.”

The choreography is rich with vibrant colour, passion, romance, adventure, intrigue and outstanding skill. VSB’s LE CORSAIRE endeavours to immerse the audience right in amidst the story in a profound experience that is exhilarating, impacting and visually inspiring.

The Victorian State Ballet was established in 2003 as the Melbourne Dance Theatre and in 2015 its name changed to reflect a new mission and vision. It boasts a rich and diverse repertoire from full length grand classical ballets and innovative contemporary dance works, reaching local and regional communities. In 2013 the company received rave reviews at The Sydney and Adelaide Fringe Festival for Madame Butterfly, which was also choreographed by Michelle Sierra, both for the choreography and for the dancers virtuosity.

LE CORSAIRE (Victorian State Ballet) will play at The Concourse, Chatswood Saturday March 17 at 7pm and Sunday March 18 at 2.30pm.  For more information visit:
