KOKO: A RED DOG STORY

A pleasant surprise, KOKO: A RED DOG STORY is a bone fido gem.

Millions of ticket buyers made Red Dog: The Movie a mega box office hit, and rightly so. The story was an archetypal Outback story featuring an adorable dog, a story with the indelible ingredients of love, loyalty and loss.

Like many movies, the back story of its making, the pains and pleasures of its production, is just as extraordinary and entertaining, and in this endearing tale, we follow the story of KOKO – the dog who played RED DOG in the first film of the same name.

Part documentary, part re-enactment, KOKO: A RED DOG STORY is a best on show story that tracks Koko’s strange good fortune and innate ability to connect with people, which allows him to navigate his local community, the dog beat dog world of show dog competitions and eventually the movie business.

Director of Red Dog, Kriv Stenders shares some amazing straight to camera anecdotes about the film’s casting and shoot, then TobyTruslove plays Kriv in some highly entertaining reenactments. Ditto, producer of the original pic, Nelson Woss appears as himself, and is then played by Felix Williamson.

And wait till you see Bryan Brown’s knockout cameo.

What could have been mere puppy porn becomes a beautiful and sincere film with emotional bite as the behind scenes story of this larrikin Lassie is told with an irreverent but real appreciation of not just one dog, but of a troupe of dogs, and, indeed, all dogs.

A portion of the DVD’s release revenue will be aiding The Dogs’ Refuge Home of W.A. Since 2012 the RED DOG franchise has contributed over $125,000 to shelters around Australia.

Umbrella Entertainment and Good Dog Distribution will distribute the film via DVD and VOD. Full details of the release can be found here:
