JOSEPH K @ LIMELIGHT ROOM, Limelight on Oxford, 231 Oxford Street Darlinghurst

JOSEPH K is arrested on his thirtieth birthday, and ending on his 31st birthday, we experience the mediocrity of a dystopian government bureaucracy gone quite mad.

This JOSEPH K is a truely brilliant production with a perfect ensemble cast of ten actors, with many in unique multiple roles. Expertly directed by Sean O’Riordon, who is an actor’s director who understands all the nuances of performance. The well-chosen background music soundtrack, adds an extra level of depth to the JOSEPH K  theatre experience.

New London in the very near future, with immaculate British accents galore, invisible yet unexplained government departments creating havoc for the arrested JOSEPH K and it has cancelled his existence, and his ability to live well in a capitalist society. Everything cancelled, passport, credit cards, oyster card, boots pharmacy card, mobile telephone, et cetera. Collapsing prospects, including sidelined at work, all beginning from the never ever explained notification of his arrest at his apartment.

Quiet whispering, quickly turning into malicious plotting against one citizen. Government knowingly negligent and deliberately breaching duty of care, with the deliberate and continuous failure to actually keep-safe and keep-secure all the personal information of JOSEPH K.

Nothing much has changed, because in Australia today, government employees, and Australian businesses and multinational corporations, still choose to treat The Customer as EITHER (1) blamed as the customer is at fault, OR (2) the customer is always wrong, (3) and for all customers that are being treated with disrespect and contempt, is wasted time and money lost.

There is a life lesson here, so please never ever sign your life away, without first obtaining permission to sign from your solicitor. A year of his life, ending with the unexpected. Despite the best endeavours, the absolute futility of dealing with the unanticipated consequences of the arrest, expensively searching for a solution to be found by his useless solicitor. Recommended.
