IMPRESSIONS DU CIEL (GLIMPSES OF HEAVEN) @ MOSMAN ART GALLERY

Impressions du ciel – Mosman French Impressionist Concert Image

Impressions du ciel (Glimpses of Heaven) comes to Mosman Art Gallery on June 16 with a sumptuous exploration of the rich colours and textures of French song, inspired by the great impressionist movement of 19th century.

The hour-long programme features music by beloved French impressionist composers Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Gabriel Fauré, and Erik Satie, alongside pieces by 20th century musical icon Francis Poulenc.

The performance is presented by a new independent musical collaboration of emerging classical artists from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s undergraduate and postgraduate programs, featuring Sydney-based singers Jacqueline Ward (soprano), Lana Kains (soprano), Elias Wilson (tenor) and Jeremy Boulton (baritone). Performing alongside the singers is skilled pianist and composer Fiona Loader, who will also present selections for solo piano.

The group hopes to showcase the “other-worldly beauty” of impressionist music, in what will be the first of a series of performances exploring the intersection of art and music. Performances are planned across eastern New South Wales for later in the year, featuring the music of Bach and Mozart.

“In co-mingling the works of these great French artists, we hope to reveal with each song a piece of the broad canvas of harmonic palettes and melodic brushstrokes that defined the sound of French chanson over the course of a century.” – Elias Wilson, Tenor

“’Impressions du ciel’ will be a night of splendid music for lovers of classical song, impressionist art, and the lyrical beauty of the French language.” – Fiona Loader, Pianist

IMPRESSIONS DU CIEL will play the Grand Hall at Mosman Art Gallery , 1 Art Gallery Way, Mosman on June 16 at 7pm. Tickets are available now.
