ICONIC BLAK MARKETS THIS WEEKEND AT NCIE REDFERN

Join Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artisans at the iconic BLACK MARKETS at the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) 180 George St, Redfern on Sunday 27 May from 8:00am – 2:00pm.

The Blak Markets feature authentic, original and affordable Aboriginal artworks, beauty products, one-of-a-kind homewares and jewellery as well as Indigenous inspired food and refreshments.

Performances will also be happening across the day from dance company The Redfern Dance Company and Charlie Trindall – a Gamilaroi man and singer songwriter from North Western NSW.

Fabulous food will feature as always at Blak Markets, with a bush food cooking demonstration and tasting on Healthy Tucker with Aunty Beryl Van-Oploo. NCIE Catering will dish up a range of offerings for sale, the students from the NCIE’s Job Ready program will be cooking up a storm on the BBQ; the NCIE Café will be open from 8am.

There will also be free all-day weaving workshops with Karleen Green involving creating a whale from recyclable material and Traditional Indigenous Games for the children.

1967 REFERENDUM TIMELINE AND INFORMATION DISPLAY.

At the heart of this month's Blak Markets at the NCIE will be the information display from 1967 50, the NCIE event commemorating 50 years since the 1967 Referendum. If you missed it last year, catch it at Blak Markets this year. The 1967 Referendum anniversary (27 May) also marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week. This year's theme is, Don’t Keep History a Mystery.

This event is free and open to all members of the public. NCIE Cafe will be open all day.
