HIGH STANDARDS : THE WORLD’S GREATEST SONGBOOK REIMAGINED

This concert took place tonight at the City Recital Hall. It was a charity gala concert, featuring an all star cast, in support of the Actors Benevolent Fund (ABF), a wonderful  organisation which helps performers who are going through hard times.

One classic after another was sung by by an impressive list of performers, supported by a great band/mini orchestra.  How is this for a line up?! Tom Burlinson, David Campbell, Kate Ceberano, Alinta Chidzey, Roger Corser, Tanya Doko, Michael Falzon, Iota, Luke Kennedy, Matt Lee, Ben Mingay, Zahra Newman, Emma Pask, Catherine Alcorn, and Jane Cho.

‘Summertime’, ‘Someone to watch over me’, ‘The Way You look tonight’, ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’, ‘Fly Me To The Moon, ‘It Had To Be You’, ‘My Sweet Valentine’,  You’ve Got Me Under Your Skin’, to name but a few, were given lovely  interpretations.

Co-producer Michael Falzon came  on  stage after the interval and said how happy he was that so many people had come to the concert in support the ABF. He reiterated  the important role that the Actors  Benevolent Fund plays and then went to introduce  performer Tony Barry who has had a long battle with cancer He spoke about how the ABF has aways been there for him  during some very difficult times.

This was the first time that the Gala event has taken place and the hope is that the event will go on to take place annually. If the success of tonights concert is any yardstick to go by, then this concert will be back again next year and looks set to have a bright future.
