HANNAH – A WESTERN SYDNEY RETHINKING OF HAMLET

GradCo.Studio return to Sydney Fringe Festival in 2018 with a new work devised and written by its members, HANNAH.

An Australian Bastardisation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
To die, to sleep—to sleep, maybe to dream. But there’s the catch: in death’s sleep who knows what kind of dreams we might have, after we’ve put the noise and turbulence of life behind us.

This new Australian work brings Western-Sydney into focus as GradCo.Studio re-imagines Shakespeare’s Hamlet as modern family drama.

Young Hannah is visited by the ghost of her father who pleads with her to seek revenge on his murderer. A twisted tale of domestic violence, addiction and homophobia that ends in tragedy.

GradCo.Studio return to Sydney Fringe Festival in 2018 with a new work devised and written by its members. “We’ve taken the classic story of love and revenge and re-imagined it as a Western-Sydney family drama focused around a strong female hero. This thought-
provoking piece really poses the question: is it better to be or not to be.
