GLORIA @ THE REGINALD

An evening of cutting edge, contemporary theatre awaits you if you make your way to the Reginald at the Seymour Centre.

GLORIA invites us into the world of magazine publishing. The show starts with banter between  some twenties something staff members and an intern  who gets  all the dogsbody jobs.  The talk centres on a .party given the night before by the office dag  Gloria with only one member of staff attending, very reluctantly. The smarminess of the office gossip ends abruptly when a totally unexpected event takes place.

Alexander Berlage’s production .is very tight. The performances by the cast- Annabel Harte, Justin Amankwah, Rowan Watt, Michelle Ny, Georgina Symes and Reza Momenzada– are razor sharp. Most of the cast double or triple up and do so effectively.

A production highlight was the finely detailed, slick set and costume design by Jeremy Allen. There were two settings – the office and a ‘nearby’ Starbucks.

A look at how greed can subsume basic human values, this is a powerful tale well told.

Branden Jacobs-Jenkins GLORIA is playing the Reginald Theatre at the Seymour Centre until Saturday 22nd June, 2019.
