Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart do their shtick in Etan Cohen’s new comedy

Coming to cinemas this week is the latest Will Ferrell movie, GET HARD, directed by Ethan Cohen, in his directorial debut, and co- written by long time Will Ferrell collaborator Ian Roberts. This a film that generates plenty of laughter and much political incorrectness.

Will Ferrell plays James King, a very wealthy and greedy hedge-fund manager who is living a life of extreme luxury when suddenly he is arrested for tax evasion and sentenced to ten years in prison.

With only 30 days of being a free man James hires his building’s car-washer attendant, Darnell Lewis (Kevin Hart), whom he incorrectly thinks has served time in jail, to teach him how to survive his upcoming 10-year prison sentence. Only problem is Darnell has never served time in jail. This is when the dodginess begins: that James thinks Darnell is a criminal simply because he is black.

What worked in this movie was the pairing of Ferrell and Hart, along with the one liner exchanges, slapstick comedy and more significantly Ferrell’s goofy, yet unpredictable character as he tries to fit in with the African American community.

Aside from all the profanity, nudity provided by Ferrell himself, and incest jokes that were more than a bit off putting, the film is funny enough to provide  a chuckle here and there. It is a funny, albeit, very silly buddy film, so don’t go and see it with any higher expectations.
