The Art Gallery of NSW will present In the Frame: Archibald Prize 2021 on Tuesday 24 August at 7.30pm – 8pm, featuring Archibald Prize 2021 winning artist Peter Wegner and his subject Guy Warren in conversation with Yumi Stynes.

In the Frame is a series of lively conversations with artists and thinkers that unpacks the connections between art and the ideas, issues and events that matter most to us today.

The Archibald Prize turned 100 this year. Coincidently, the 2021 winning portrait painted by Melbourne artist Peter Wegner depicts another 100-year-old, artist Guy Warren.

Broadcast live from locked-down Sydney, Peter and Guy talk with TV and radio presenter Yumi Stynes about the joys and challenges of being creative in a global pandemic and the stories behind the winning portrait.

Peter initially painted Guy as part of his Centenarian Project – portraits of 100 people who have reached one hundred years old. Guy still works in his studio and exhibits regularly and is himself an Archibald Prize winner from 1985. His winning portrait of Bert Flugelman is featured in the celebratory exhibition Archie 100: A Century of the Archibald Prize, which can be viewed online HERE.

Join the livestreamed event on the Art Gallery of NSW’s YouTube or Facebook, or catchup later on the Art Gallery channel. You can also catch up on previous In the Frame talks HERE.
