FALLING FOR FIGARO : A GREAT DATE NIGHT MOVIE

Joanna Lumley and Danielle Macdonald in Ben Lewin’s FALLING FOR FIGARO

The scenario to Australian filmmaker Ben Lewin’s new film FALLING FOR FIGARO sees Millie, an American fund manager, realise one day that her life-long dream is to become an opera singer. Quitting the job and moving away from her boyfriend, she travels to a remote town in Scotland where she eventually becomes an opera singer following an intense vocal training from former opera diva Meghan Geoffrey-Bishop and fierce competition from other opera singers.

The genre is a mix of follow your dreams with romantic comedy and and it works like a very pleasant dream. The shots of a remote country village in Scotland are beautiful. The performances are spot on.  In the main cast, Danielle Macdonald was very appealing as the strong willed Millie, Hugh Skinner played her love interest, the dour country lad Max, Shazad Latif played her good natured, ever reliable ex, Charlie, Joanna Lumley was great as the dragon lady, former opera diva Meghan Geoffrey-Bishop and Gary Lewis was superb as the very droll pub owner, Ramsay Macfadyen.

This is a fun, gentle, breezy romantic comedy.

A great date night movie, FALLING FOR FIGARO opens in cinemas on Thursday 14 July 2022.
