EISHAN ENSEMBLE @ VENUE 505 SURRY HILLS

Led by acclaimed Persian-Australian tar player and composer Hamed Sadeghi, Eishan Ensemble draws on contemporary and classical music traditions of both East and West.

Sadeghi’s powerful original compositions feature with lashings of improvisation drawing from diverse musical styles. The fabulous sounds of the tar (Persian plucked lute) combine with guitar, double bass and saxophone, in a fusion of contemporary jazz and traditional Persian inspired melodies.

Variously described as ‘Persian chamber jazz’ and ‘Middle-Eastern jazz fusion’, Eishan Ensemble defies neat labels while making a lasting impact. Following the success of its debut release last year, Eishan performs new material, blurring the lines that define genre even further, to create something that stands alone.

‘Casts a spell all its own … astonishing power and convulsive impact.’ ****½ Sydney Morning Herald
