DAVID JONES CELEBRATES 30 BLOOMING YEARS

David Jones recently held its annual flower show, the 30th anniversary exhibition, which perhaps has been the most spectacular so far. For the past 30 years floral designer George Low has been the creative force behind the David Jones Flower Show. Each year George draws inspiration from the shapes of Spring’s most beautiful flowers arranging them using both local and exotic flowers from from around the world.

George and his team are now preparing for next year’s Flower Show to yet again create the floral bounty that Spring brings.

The origins of the David Jones Flower Show date back to the 1940’s when staff decorated their counters with Springtime flowers from their own gardens. Sir Charles Lloyd Jones was delighted by the practice and encouraged it. The David Jones Flower Show in its current form began in 1988.

With no less than 300,000 blooms, comprising 50 species varieties from all over the world, on the ground floor of the Elizabeth Street store, it takes over 4000 hours of creative work and curation, with over 8000 blooms filling greenhouses. During the week of the show some 90000 visitors enjoyed this floral extravaganza.

The Flower Show took place between Tuesday 4th September to Sunday 9th September 2018.
