CONTRASTS is this year’s annual MUSICUS MEDICUS charity fundraiser from the NSW Doctors Orchestra. [YouTube]

Over 80 doctors and medical students from throughout NSW will make music for a cause under the baton of Dr David Banney, winner of the 1995 ABC-Westfield Australian Young Conductor of the Year Award.  The event to be held at The Concourse on Sunday 20 May 2018, 2:30pm.

All concert proceeds will fund the NSW Doctors Orchestra Sydney Eisteddfod [Facebook] Instrumental Scholarship, and benefit the Australian Children’s Music Foundation (ACMF), founded by Don Spencer, to help ACMF to continue to provide free music education and instruments to disadvantaged children and youth at risk throughout Australia.

This year’s concert offers an afternoon of sublime music, varied and contrasting in style and origin, with compositions from France, Russia, Mexico and Australia. The highlight will be the Sydney premiere performance of Elena Kats-Chernin’s flute concerto Night and Now,  written especially for soloist and distinguished flautist Sally Walker and funded by the Australian Council for the Arts.

The program also includes:
Gabriel Faure: Pelleas et Melisande Suite, Op. 80
Rimsky Korsakov: Capriccio espagnol, Op. 34
Arturo Marquez: Danzon No.2

In addition, a children’s choir from Banksmeadow School will perform with Don Spencer, backed by the orchestra, to sing a couple of his iconic songs.
