CHRYSTALIS: Inspired by True Events

Chrystalis presented by Midnight Feast

CHRYSTALIS is a passionate and inspirational new work by independent theatre company Midnight Feast.

Inspired by true events in the lives of Midnight Feast members with high support needs who, in their eyes, have been mistreated and ignored by doctors and institutions, it is written by Stephen Sewell, Emily Dash and Warwick Allsopp.  The work will have its World Premiere season at The Studio, Sydney Opera House mid-November.

When Glenn presents at the emergency room, alone and unable to communicate, frustrated medical staff debate what to do next. After all, what does he has to offer the world? What follows is Glenn’s imaginative journey as he ultimately confronts what it means to be different in today’s society. Who decides what makes life worth living?

Midnight Feast was created to enable people identifying with physical, mental and emotional disability the opportunity to participate in the performing arts on a variety of levels. Drama and movement have proven benefits for the disabled and able bodied alike.  CHRYSTALIS combines the talents of professional actors with high support need individuals.

Kylie Harris, the founder of Midnight Feast, has been leading the world in staging plays that utilise the talents of people with high support needs. In 2012 working with Can you See Me? Theatre, Harris took CIRCUMPECTO to the Sydney Opera House.  This production set a bench-mark as the first Studio production to combine an abled and disable cast.

“Our dream is to enable talented performers with a disability, to reach their full potential as people; participate and perform alongside their able bodied colleagues, to the enjoyment of audiences in Australia’s capital cities, regional towns and select venues internationally.” says Harris.

A protest Inspired by true events in the lives of ensemble members with significant disabilities who feel they have been mistreated and ignored by doctors and institutions, CHRYSTALIS is playing Thursday, November 16 at 7pm and Friday, November 17 at 2pm and 7pm.
