CASTLE HILL PLAYERS : SEASON 2020

Castle Hill Players is thrilled to announce its 2020 Pavilion Theatre season: guaranteed to entertain, delight and engage audiences of all ages… with a smorgasbord of delicious theatrical treats!

Program Director, Annette van Roden, says Season 2020 will have theatre lovers on the edge of their seats… and more. “You’ll feel your spine tingling, be reaching for a box of tissues or laughing out loud… Next year’s line-up is a reflection of our total humanity.”

Castle Hill Players are unique in Sydney’s Community Theatre scene, with their own, purpose-built, comfortable, licensed and superbly fitted out theatre… and they’ve been entertaining theatre lovers for over 60 years!

Six directors submitted over twenty plays for next year’s season; these were read by a group of seven members over four weeks and, after a few meetings, consensus was quickly reached. “From familiar stories with a twist, to contemporary Australian work, there’s truly something for everyone,” says Annette.

The season starts with Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (from 31 Jan). You may know the story but you’ve never experienced it like this! Noah Smith’s intimate adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic blends science fiction, drama and horror to create a unique, spine-chilling night of theatre.

Things I Know to be True (from 27 March) is a play about an ordinary family: parents and four adult children. It is set in an Adelaide suburb and takes place over the course of the year: a highly relatable family drama that is sure to tug at your heartstrings but make you laugh out loud as well.

Always a Bridesmaid is up next from 22 May. In this hilarious comedic romp, four friends have sworn to keep the promise they made on the night of their senior prom: to be at each other’s weddings… no matter what.

The Cripple of Inishmaan (from 17 July) is set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland in 1934. This is a strange comic tale in the great tradition of Irish storytelling.

This year the Pavilion also presents something especially for families with Roald Dahl’s The Witches playing during the school holidays (from 18 Sept). This is a faithful adaptation of Dahl’s classic story in which Boy and his Grandmother defeat the Grand High Witch and her followers, who are holding a conference in an English seaside hotel.

The season ends with Entertaining Angels (from 13 Nov). As a clergy wife, Grace has spent a lifetime on her best behaviour. Now, following the death of her husband Bardolph, she is enjoying the new-found freedom of being able to do and say exactly as she pleases.

Make a great night complete by enjoying a two-course meal pre-show dinner at Nobles Restaurant at the Hills Lodge Hotel. Phone 9680 3800 to book your table.
