CANDICE D’ARCY ‘FOREIGN BODY’ @ ERSKINVILLE TOWN HALL

Candice D’Arcy

Candice D’Arcy grew up in the ‘80s in Apartheid South Africa, but despite her white privilege, inherited racial prejudices and good girl tendencies, she unexpectedly found herself breaking all the rules (and mum and dad’s hearts) when she shacked up across the forbidden colour lines and gave birth to her mixed-race daughter at the age of 21. Having grown up a fair bit, faced her prejudices and moved to Australia, she’s ready to open up and tell her incredible life story.

FOREIGN BODY is an hour of hilarious and heartfelt stories, songs and South African slang, where Candice will grapple with her labels and reckon with the past in order to redefine herself as a foreigner in Australia on her own terms. You’re sure to laugh, cry and maybe even rethink some of your own beliefs.

Candice D’Arcy is an actress, improviser and writer with over 17 years’ experience, who acted alongside stars like Sienna Miller and Rutger Hauer before moving to Australia. She is no stranger to the Melbourne arts scene, having been an ensemble member of beloved impro troupe The Big Hoo-Haa! Melbourne for 6 years. She starred in TBC Theatre’s immersive period drama Rust for Midsumma 2020, was one third of TriAngel at Melbourne Fringe in 2019, and wrote and directed the mother-daughter cabaret Wanda and Mel starring her daughter, which debuted at Melbourne Fringe in 2017. Foreign Body is her first solo show.

FOREIGN BODY is directed by Trudi Boatwright – an actor, theatre maker and producer with over 20 years experience who also happens to be married to a South African. Trudi founded TBC Theatre which produces immersive theatre productions throughout Melbourne including Shadows of Angels at Melbourne Gaol, Naismiths Secret at the Gatehouse at Melb General Cemetery and Rust at Alliance Française.
