BLACKOUT THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS THE LARAMIE PROJECT @ THE DEPOT THEATRE, MARRICKVILLE

The cast of The Laramie Project filming our trailer

On October 6th of 1998 Matthew Shepard was beaten and left to die tied to a fence in the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. He died 6 days later. His torture and murder became a watershed historical moment in America that highlighted many of the fault lines in our culture..

A month after the murder the members of Tectonic Theater Project traveled to Laramie and conducted interviews with the people of the town. From these interviews they wrote the play The Laramie Project.

This tragic, yet exceptionally beautiful play, addresses issues that are still present today, almost 20 years later.

Our production has a minimalist approach, with simply staging of 15 chairs, and a fence around the parameters of the stage, with 15 actors playing between 4-6 characters each. This cast has an incredible diversity in gender, race, age and sexuality. We aim to bring justice to this unbelievably important piece of theatre, in order to create social change, and give a voice to those issues we, as a global community need to address.
