AUSTRALIA VOTES 2016 : THE POLITICAL YEAR IN REVIEW @ HAROLD PARK HOTEL

Tim and Kevin2

This is a short revue style performance on the first floor of the Harold Park Hotel ..just over an hour.

Nathan Lentern plays a very credible Kevin Rudd, capturing his unique blend of ockerism, condescension and cynicism. He also does that pain Pyne with his cadet corp /high school prefect manner.

Jonas Holt gives a long monologue at the end as Tony Abbott and again he comes to light as a vaguely reptilian political animal, struggling to coordinate the brain with the voice box, his tongue accommodating the interval between thought and word, as he struggles to find the right sentence.

Brent Thorpe plays Deidre Flick an elderly Mum ((self funded retiree if you please!) from Mosman telephoning Alan Jones scarcely pausing for breath as she seeks catharsis and release from the horrors of a suburbia invaded by the 21st century

These characters as well as a swag of others ( including Donald Trumps’ campaign manager “….luck is for Losers”) are hosted on stage by Timothy Govers …a well known LGBT identity.

It all ends when Nathan Lentern comes on stage to announce in inimitable K Rudd style that it’s time to Zip.

The content is somewhat a bit too uneven for me but this is quite a talented line-up (some of whom have appeared on National TV) that got quite a few laughs. For $18 ($14 concession) it’s a good night out, and you can follow it with a few beers afterward at the downstairs bar.

AUSTRALIA VOTES 2016 – THE POLITICAL YEAR IN REVIEW is playing Friday July 1 and Friday July 8 at 8.30pm at the Harold Park Hotel  70 A Ross Street Glebe.
