ANTHONY LISTER : CULTURE IS OVER EXHIBITION

Anthony Lister, one of Australia’s most internationally renowned contemporary artists has announced a Sydney anniversary pop up show, kicking off with an exclusive exhibition opening night event on Wednesday 17 July at 7:00pm.

In 2009, Lister held a one night only pop up art event in Sydney’s King Cross titled No Win Sitch. The exhibition was an onsite installation taking place in the notorious Porky’s Strip Club on the red-light strip. The installation was quickly met with hundreds of people gathering on Darlinghurst Road eager to participate in the fleeting pop up.

To mark the ten-year anniversary of No Win Sitch, Anthony Lister will be presenting a new installation and pop up show, CULTURE IS OVER. Paying homage to the colourful culture of old school Kings Cross, CULTURE IS OVER will be presented once again at the old Porky’s site on the “red-light strip” and will kick off with a special opening night event available to the public from 7:00pm.

The pop up will be a week-long independent and free exhibition for the public, celebrating the culture of “Old School Sydney”. Inspired by the Lister’s iconic artwork Moloch of Luna Park, 2017, attendees can expect a twisted and dark experience into the paranormal mystery of Luna Park’s unidentified horned man as well as the phantasmagoria of Kings Cross exhibited through painting, sculpture and video instillation.
