A MESSAGE FROM SYDNEY FESTIVAL ARTISTIC DIRECTOR WESLEY ENOCH

Our very enthusiastic new Sydney Festival director Wesley Enoch.. Pic Ben Apfelbaum .

Home is where the art is

Wherever you are I suspect you are reading, listening to music, watching movies, maybe having a cheeky dance and generally enjoying art. When times are tough we turn to art and artists to help us through. Arts are a valuable part of our lives in lockdown and we are looking forward to opening up soon and being just as valued in recovery.

Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben tells us that our lives are not just about the physical health of our bodies but also the social relationships, cultural interactions and economic exchanges that make us a community. Sydney Festival is part of your community and we hope you and yours are healthy in mind, body and spirit.

I am looking forward to bringing all the thinking we are doing out from under the covers. The Sydney Festival Team are busy baking the right kind of festival for January 2021. We are hopeful and optimistic we will have a festival in January and we are talking to artists about what we should do to help Sydney come out of its cocoon.

There will be so much need for a recovery and when the time is right we will be there. Until then stay safe, crank up the music and dance a little bit longer.

Love

Wesley
