Coming soon to Sydney’s Paddington, Cement Fondu is a new exhibition and live arts space with a difference: a place where art forms, ideas, generations, cultures, perspectives come together to create something new.

Located in a stunning 270sqm purpose-renovated space on a leafy street, close to cafes, bars, and transport, Cement Fondu will present an ambitious and diverse year-round program of multi-art form exhibitions featuring visual arts, performance, dance and music by Australian and international artists, plus one-off performances and events.

Driven by visionary young Directors, Megan Monte and Josephine Skinner, who bring 20 years of experience in the visual arts arena, Cement Fondu will be fresh, informed, globally relevant and surprising, offering a unique approach to the inner-city gallery experience, for the curious of mind.

Cement Fondu opens to the public with a free evening of art and fun to celebrate the launch of their inaugural exhibition program, SUBURBIA, 6pm to 8pm Saturday March 10.

Cement Fondu’s inaugural exhibition addresses the title theme in its broadest sense, featuring works by over 15 Australian and international artists and collectives, spanning contemporary visual arts, performance, music and cinema, with a creative curatorial rationale informed by the metaphor of “looking beyond our own backyard”.

Celebratory, challenging and controversial, SUBURBIA will present a broad range of perspectives encompassing everything from cultural clash to Australiana, and touch on wide-ranging experiences that relate to immigration and colonisation, cultural identity, the body and home, in a hopeful and often humorous examination of our relationship between the places we inhabit and our evolving sense of self.

SUBURBIA  will feature

- paintings of ‘outback Suburbia’ by indigenous Tangentyere artists Nerine Tilmouth, Louise Daniels and Elizabeth Nampitjinpa

- new audio works by Sweatshop Western Sydney Literacy Movement

-new ceramic work by Melbourne artist Kenny Pittock

- video works selected from our international partner Daata Editions, including internationally acclaimed digital artists Ed Fornieles and Amalia Ulman

- larger than life photographic wallpapers by Parramatta Artist Studios resident Garry Trinh

- new painting installation by Tasmanian artist Amber Koroluk-Stephenson

- embroidered tapestries by Melbourne artist Paul Yore

- the creative outcomes of Chris Dolman’s recent art residency in Cité internationale des arts in Paris, France, and more.

During Suburbia, Parramatta Artist Studios resident Rosie Deacon will take over Cement Fondu’s Art Store with her spectacularly obsessive hand-made animal sculptures, installations and jewellery.
