The great Spanish poet and writer Federico Garcia Lorca said; “A society that does not help or discourages theatre, if not dead, is dying.”

Thankfully, in Australia we live in a vibrant society that supports theatre and seeing the excellent work that continues to come out of the Australian Theatre For Young People (ATYP) is nothing short of inspirational.

The ATYP’s current production THE VOICES PROJECT: ALL GOOD THINGS, directed by the very experienced Iain Sinclair features a collection of monologues written by some of our talented young playwrights explores the theme of departure, presenting ten different ways of saying goodbye.

This was a very entertaining night of theatre. Some of the highlights- Kirby Medway’s THE FUZZ performed by Jonas Thompson who plays a troubled  17 year old teenager. Rachel Regan’s RED BULL, performed by Mai Tran, plays a teenager freaking out over exam stress.

All the actors performed well and demonstrated their great passion for theatre. They communicated the issues affecting young people, as presented by the works of the talented young playwrights, in a modern and very direct way.

Through the night the set constantly changed highlighting different items/locations from a toilet, changing room, cinema seats, a bathtub or a tree consisting of branches hanging from the ceiling.

Ian Sinclair’s direction was clear and very fluid.  Emma Lockhart-Wilson’s lighting and Michael Touista’s soundscape complemented the action well.
