SpongeBob SquarePants is finally back where he belongs providing comedy and rude humour brought together with a complicated and trippy plot, in a brand new adventure showing in Sydney cinemas during the Easter school holidays. You must see this pretty-much surreal SpongeBob SquarePants in the stunning 3D version that easily creates the illusion of reality, and contains an amazing selection of cute live-action footage, classic animation and computer graphics animation.

Starting from 1 May 1999, there have been nine incredible seasons of the Nickelodeon childrens’ animated television series created by Stephen Hillenburg. With the charm of the childish antics of that happy idiot known as SpongeBob SquarePants, this is the first Hollywood-studio full length animated film to use genuine hand-drawn animation, since 2011’s Disney movie “Winnie the Pooh”. It has been ten long years of waiting for the sequel, as our cinemas last showed that guilty pleasure, “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie” (2004). So join Spongebob SquarePants (voiced by Tom Kenny) and The Bikini Bottom Gang on their latest cinema comedy/adventure, when a diabolical live-action pirate from above the sea, Captain Burger-Beard (Antonio Banderas), steals the top secret formula for Krusty Krab’s famous “Krabby Patty”.

Together they must leave Bikini Bottom to go in search of the precious recipe, in a fast 92 minutes of pure delight for all children, and also for every adult SpongeBob SquarePants fan. It was quite un-nerving that the characters constantly broke the fourth wall throughout the film, but that unusual choice made this a film that easily kept the young audience glued into their seats, and a most welcome reminder of that style of zany storytelling that used to be always seen in old-style Hollywood animation.

Now we have super hero versions of our favourite crew from the bottom of the ocean, from the town of Bikini Bottom. When finally the friends arrive above the sea, they are transformed into these super-heroic super-heroes, we experience SpongeBob’s alter ego, The Invincibubble; Patrick becomes Mr. Superaweseomness; Squidward has of course been transformed into Sour Note; Mr. Krabs becomes Sir Pinch-a-Lot; Sandy is The Rodent; and Planton’s is Plank-Ton. New names with new super hero experiences, for the Bikini Bottom Gang, on our Suburban Streets, there are the super-powered battles against Captain Burger-Beard.

The satire includes the running gag, about what are the actual ingredients that are used to make the totally addictive “Krabby Patty”?
