This is a stage adaptation of John Buchan’s famous novel ‘The 39 Steps’, made into the great Alfred Hitchcock movie and further to the point adapted for the stage by Patrick Barlow.

The main aspect of this show was, whereas the Hitchcock movie was full of drama, this stage adaptation was played out as a farce.

The performances were excellent with a fine a cast including Max Philipson in the central role of Richard Hannah with Lib Campbell, Mark Langham and Stephen Holland playing a variety of supporting roles. The performances were all played with a light,comic touch.

‘The 39 Steps’ was tightly directed by Tom Moody who also designed a very comprehensive set. Susan Carveth and Nicola Griggs came up with the costume design whilst Michael Schell provided a strong lighting and sound design.

Recommended, ‘The 39 Steps’ opened at the inner Genesian Theatre venue on Saturday 14th May and runs until Wednesday 25th June, 2011.
