As far as I can recall, I have never come across 13 before. Am I am monkey’s uncle? Oh my god … so great.
I just saw Birdie Productions’ musical 13 at the Bryan Brown theatre in Bankstown and I am jiggie with it! FYI this is how it rolls.
12 year old New Yorker, Evan Goldman is ripped from the greatest city in the world by his getting-divorced Mom. He lands in a small town in Indiana on the eve of his Bar Mitzvah and is totally focused on getting in with the cool kids so that he will have a fantastic party. For the next 2 hours he makes every wrong choice available. Continue reading 13: A New Musical @ Bryan Brown Theatre Bankstown→
Birdie Productions bring the world of politics with a punch back to the charisma-starved electorate with its revival of Casey Bennetto’s KEATING! THE MUSICAL (2005). This revival is titled: KEATING! THE MUSICAL WE HAD TO HAVE.
The five piece band on stage led by Philip Eames give good support to the singers and action through pop music styles various from decades past. In the absence of true sets or props, there is something of a mixed-gig feel as each character adds to the show. Bankstown Theatre Company (BTC) are currently celebrating the musical GREASE through a colourful and high energy revival. This 1950’s styled stage hit is familiar to many of us from the film release of 1978 starring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta and remains a favourite several generations of fans.
BTC follows the trend of recent stage revivals by including songs inserted for the film but not part of the original show by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. In this performance the 1950’s musical genres are presented with desirable style by the band. Audiences will recognise the title track ‘Grease’ as written by Barry Gibb, Olivia Newton-John’s chart hit ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ and ‘You’re the One That I Want’ from the film’s climax.
