Aussie Opera Star Stuart Skelton To Make Hometown Appearance

Peter-Grimes

Stuart Skelton, the award winning Australian tenor and star of the English National Opera’s (ENO) production of PETER GRIMES will make a special live appearances at the PETER GRIMES screenings at Event Cinemas, Cronulla on Saturday October 10 at 3pm.

Skelton is delighted to be visiting Cronulla as it holds a special place in his heart as it is his hometown.

Stuart Skelton in the title role has been described as the ‘definitive’ Peter Grimes and he has performed the role all over the world. Directed by David Alden, PETER GRIMES is one of ENO’s most successful productions. The company is known as the world’s leading producer of Britten’s operas and it was where PETER GRIMES first premiered back in 1945.

PETER GRIMES contains some of the most evocative music ever written. The wildness of the sea and the instability of Grimes’s mind are superbly reflected in Britten’s music.

In a small coastal fishing village in Suffolk, fisherman Peter Grimes’ apprentice disappears at sea. What happened to the boy? Was Peter Grimes involved? He is questioned in court but no charges are brought against him. The villagers are suspicious of Grimes and believe him to be responsible for the boy’s disappearance. Subjected to a hate campaign, Peter’s state of mind and behaviour becomes increasingly unstable. He takes on another apprentice with tragic consequences.

Stuart Skelton has appeared in many of the world’s most celebrated opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera, the English National Opera and the Paris. He continues to be in demand on concert stages around the world.

Skelton is in Sydney to prepare for an upcoming performance with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets to what will be a memorable screening are available online at eventcinemas.com.au or at the box office.
