When confirming the RSVPs for the one and only STAR WARS Episode VII press screening in SYDNEY, the polite email received from DISNEY surprisingly included a very severe and stronger-than-usual hype about spoilers and embargoes: “In order to give audiences around the world the opportunity to enjoy STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS  to its fullest and allow them to discover its surprises and plot twists in the cinema, we respectfully ask that you refrain from specifying plot points in your coverage, including on social media.”

Strangely smarmy and couched in slimy corporate-speak (Wow and thank you for making me a full partner, and precisely how many revenue points for this movie, are you giving away to each journalist?).

This film is the continuation of the famous science fiction saga, all created by writer/director George Lucas . . . The movie takes place 35 years after “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983)”, 10 years after “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005)” and 16 years after “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999)”.

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away . . . ” OKAY, because you asked so sweetly, there never ever is a need to explain, what actually happens anywhere during this movie.

SPOILER ALERT: “Star Wars VII – The Force Awakens” . . . yes this brand new episode in the franchise, is with little re-working, very obviously a full remake intended for millennials of the well remembered “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977)”.

This franchise transformation, is a brilliant production solely because J.J. Abrams is at the helm, instead of director George Lucas. The storyline moves faster than ever before, and George Lucas can only have immense pride with this magnificent rebirth of his six epic and unique cinematic masterpieces.

This Star Wars episode introduces you to older characters, and with its new locations also successfully creates brand new characters. Director J.J. Abrams with his new ‘Star Wars’ Movie, has also brought Celluloid Film back to film making in Hollywood, in less than a dozen years after George Lucas leveraged all of the Star Wars franchise’s power, to usher in the era of HD digital filmmaking in Hollywood.

During all of its 136 minutes, you will be constantly kept on the edge of your seat, and the plot is fresh and unfolds gradually. Expect Jedi mind tricks, fast-paced light-saber duels and spaceship battles, plot twists, explosions and action galore. The old enemy was called The Empire, and thirty years later from its ashes the new enemy is an ultra-militaristic government called The First Order, and its many stormtroopers reign down hell in the Galactic Empire.

General Leia Organa (Princess Leia) leads the underground resistance movement that fights to bring back the democracy of The Republic. In the battle against the resistance is Captain Phasma, a highly decorated female stormtrooper commander, and Kylo Ren is the amazing super villain.

This time there are two lead characters, Finn is a former First Order stormtrooper, and we meet a very strong female protagonist, Rey the scavenger from the planet Jakku. Their journey leads them to become part of the resistance, is influenced by BB-8 (an orange rolling droid robot) that belongs to Poe Dameron who is a resistance pilot. Of course they find Han Solo and Chewbacca who is his trusted wookie companion.

This latest sequel  broke box office records before opening and for many months will continue to grow as a world-wide hit. Yet again John Williams, has provided perfect background music for all of this epic space adventure.

This new Star Wars franchise is designed to immediately create millions of new young fans, which could easily allow Disney to go on to produce another dozen episodes. Watching the next Star Wars movie is already on my wish list. Highly Recommended.
