SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR

Second

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR featuring an all-star cast, is a wonderful and much anticipated sequel to “Sin City” (2005), which was based on a series of graphic novels by American comic artist Frank Miller, that first appeared in the “Dark Horse Presents” comic books, issue numbers 51-62 from April of 1991 to June of 1992, and these stories were not originally published in chronological order. Replicating the stark black/colour visuals of the world of the original graphic novels, Frank Miller was also involved in writing the screenplay for this new movie.

Eva Green as AVA is continuously sexy/angry, plus is intense/striking and visually scary, probably exactly why she was cast as the sociopathic femme fatale, since the majority of the movie revolves around this one vindictive woman, who easily manipulates men in order to get what she wants. A large part of the role is providing her facial expressions, that mimic those of female mental patients with Borderline Personality Disorder, and because she is so challenging, most men are instantly attracted to that kind of woman.

Josh Brolin now plays “pre-surgery Dwight”, and by wearing prosthetics plays “post-surgery Dwight” which is the role that Clive Owen was supposed to reprise, but had scheduling conflicts with his Cinemax series, The Knick. Brittany Murphy and Michael Clarke Duncan passed away, forcing the directors to have to recast their respective roles of Shellie and Manute (Dennis Haysbert). Due to Devon Aoki’s pregnancy at the start of production, the character of Miho was also recast, with Jamie Chung replacing Aoki. Jeremy Piven replaced Michael Madsen as Bob. Unexpected cameo appearance by the two directors, so when Nancy is in her apartment watching her television, the two hobo characters seen in the TV show are Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez.

Directed by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez, “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For” consists of the following stories – ‘Just Another Saturday Night’, ‘A Dame To Kill For’, ‘Long Bad Night’, and ‘Nancy’s Last Dance’. Of the four, the first two are based on published Sin City stories, and the latter two are brand new, and focuses on both familiar faces and brand new characters, especially as some characters now have different actors in the roles. Time-wise all four stories take place after Hartigan’s release on parole, but begins a few months before Marv meets Goldie, since both these events were seen in the first movie.

A must-see great movie, as good as the original. Very Highly Recommended.
