tHE FINAL EXAM. Pic Sylvi Soe

Short and Sweet Sydney continues its 2014 annual festival, full of fresh talent this week, with another TEN Top 80 short plays, with a number of absolutely stand-out performances.

ABEL C. MANN, PROCESSED OFFSHORE- apparently ‘acting is a mugs game’ as seen during the re-enactment of the landing of the first fleet, which suddenly becomes “no longer possible” as “we are stopping the boats”, including the actor’s boat.

FLIGHT is a new short play by Alex Broun, our prolific and internationally produced home-grown playwright. Enhanced by an outstanding background soundscape, this is a one woman tour-de-force, as a hard-edged CEO ‘loses’ it.

PRICK as written and performed by Gina Cohen and Jeremy Godwin, revenge is a most excellent way to obtain a full murder confession from the worst ever Richard III.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE BIRDS – sorry actually, no it’s not. Ghost Spy Husband will be returning unexpectedly.

VIXEN- so who is the actual victim, the whipped or the vixen whipper?!

NICE GUYS by Gabriel McCarthy is an awkward ‘bad boys’ piece about flexible douche-baggery versus chivalry

FALLING FOR HARRY suicidal Hare Krishna tries to pick-up the new love of this life, at her suicide.

HEAVENLY INSPIRATION- God with serious attitude, and what has that to do with Hamlet?!

NANA- a dark comedy about great sex for two seniors, was the audience hit of the evening.

THE FINAL EXAM- God will decide your fate for entry to Heaven. You are asked so many unwanted questions, that you will never ever want to answer!

Ten unique performances.   Recommended. Playing until Sunday.
